Name of a PS1 video game; female protagonist fights with hoops?

Can anyone tell me the name of a video game that has two main protagonists, and almost at the beginning you can choose the character you want to play as? One is a boy (is his name 'Rune' by any chance? it sounds familiar...) with blondish hair and uses a large sword, while the female protagonist has red hair and pigtails, She fights with hoops or rings...sound familiar? Thank you!! [It's a fantasy RPG] and it came out in the US a while ago.
